The third summer school in borderland studies took place in Chișinău

The third summer school, “Borderlands Studies in East Central Europe and the Black Sea Region,” was held in Chișinău from June 26 to July 4, 2023. The school was organized by the Center for the Study of Interethnic Relations in cooperation with the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and the Kowalsky Program for the Study of Eastern Ukraine at the University of Alberta, Canada.

The school brought together participants and lecturers from twelve countries. The program of the school combined lecture courses and sessions with presentations and discussions of participants’ research. The school included study visits to Moldovan civil society organizations involved in supporting reforms in the country. A public discussion was also held at the State University of Moldova, which focused on the contested border zones of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. Two days of the school were devoted to study trips to get acquainted with the Bulgarian and Gagauz communities bordering the border.
